6.
Ayvalık International Music Academy took place between 8-17 September
2003 at Boyner family's beautiful estate near the seaside on Cunda Island,
and Melin family's historical mansion in the old town of Ayvalık.
In Boyner estate Lukas and Anja David (violin & piano), Tatjana Masurenko
(viola), Vieri Bottazzini (flute) and Julian Milkis (clarinet) held their
master classes. Cello Professor Peter Bruns resided and taught at the
Melin House in Ayvalık.

This
year 35 students from Edirne, İstanbul, Ankara, Konya, İzmir, Dresden,
Graz and Detmold conservatories and music schools have attended AIMA.
There
were 15 violin students. This was a record number since 1998. Aslı Özbayrak
Çivicioğlu from Mimar Sinan University assisted Prof. Lukas David who
conducted the masterclass non- stop from early morning until nearly sundown.
Many of the students like Mehmet Yasemin, Melikcan Zaman, Belma Tahan,
Zeynep Paftalı, Doğukan Çokşeker, Ali Başeğmezler, Beril Sim Sun, Melisa
Uzunarslan, the twins Seda & Eda Aslanoğlu, Aslıhan And and Mehmet
Ali Yücel were veteran AIMA students.
Ayvalık
Classical Music Association gave its traditional AIMA garden party at
Ms. Evin Doğukan's residence in the fashionable Çamlık district. Professors
and the students of AIMA were invited alongside with the prominent music
loving citizens of Ayvalık.

Sixth AIMA concert took place on 16 September 2003 at the Alibey/Cunda
Cultural Center. The highlights of the concert were the outstanding performances
of the very talented young musicians and their teachers.
Peter Bruns performed Wagenseil's Sonata for 6 Celli with all of his students.
Lukas David played one movement of Prokofieff's Sonata for two Violins
with his young student İmge Tilif.
Vieri Bottazzini performed Morlacchi's The Swiss Shepard and dazzled the
audience with his virtuosity.
The concert was concluded with Mozart's Kegelstaatt Trio, performed by
Tatjana Masurenko (viola), Julian Milkis (clarinet) and Anja David (piano).
The joint cocert of the AIMA students and teachers has become a tradition
since 1998. This year it will be held on 16th September 2003 in Cunda/Alibey
Island Cultural Center.

AIMA celebrated its 5th anniversary in 2002. Thirty two students have
attended the master classes between September 10-20. Six cello students
studied with Prof. Peter Bruns, eight viola students studied with Prof.
Tatjana Masurenko, seven flute students studied with Prof Vieri Bottazzini
and no less then thirteen violin students studied with Prof. Lukas David
and Çigdem Yonat-Iyicil.
There
were two violin students from Greece (Appollon Gramatikopoulos and Demostenis
Katzanis), a viola student from Germany (Milena Bender) and a flute student
from Romania (Maria Gavrilova) attending the master classes this September.
The rest of the student body were from Ankara, Istanbul, Izmir, Eskisehir
and Edirne.
Violin,
viola and flute courses were given at the Boyner estate as usual. The
Boyner family has been generously giving the use of their estate to AIMA
since its beginnings in 1998. Mrs. Binnaz and Mr. Ergun Melin also were
very generous to open their town house to the use of AIMA since 2001.
Prof. Peter Bruns stayed and held his cello courses at this house this
year.
Türkiye
Is Bankasi was once again our principal sponsor this year. Mrs. Ayla Birsel
and Ms. Lale Tuluy have enabled us to give scholarships to five students.
At
the end of this ten day study period all the students gave a public concert
with their teachers. The concert was very well attended by the local people
of Ayvalik and by music lovers from around the vicinity. There were quite
a number of German, American, French and English citizens among the audience.
The Cultural Attaché from The German Federal Republic’s General
Consulate in Istanbul came to Ayvalik specially to attend to this concert.
Many
prominent citizens of Ayvalik gave a hand to this project from its beginnings.
This year all the students and faculty were invited to various garden
parties by these kind people of Ayvalik.
